Did a little Cold Water vertical Jigging on the Connecticut River in Massachusetts just south of the New Hampshire. Water temp was an average of 46 degrees on the main river, while in flowing streams dropped to 45 43 degrees from rains several days earlier. Our six hour venture working 1/2 oz Silver Buddy’s in 18-25 foot depths landed only six smallmouth’s. Although not very many, our smallest was 1.5 lbs while two were nice and fat tipping the scales at just over 3 lbs. The other three were identical 2.5 pounders out of the same mold! Working a back water slough and quarry, we managed three largemouth bites in 8-10 feet. Smallest was a short 14.5 in bass, one just over 4 pounds and the bass of the bass ate a 1/2 oz black jig with a black Pac-Craw trailer. This hog went just under 6 lbs!!! Bass anglers on the water totaled two boats, Duck hunter’s and retrieving dogs totaled four boats, five dogs and about twelve hunters. More o come as the weather allows.
